Seagate BlackArmor NAS 110 1 TB Hard Drive Review
When it comes to hard drives, Seagate is top of the list. With the trend on NAS, I found another great addition to Seagate family, the BlackArmor NAS 110 1 TB Network Attached Storage. With 1 TB capacity, it can hold much of your valued data. This device comes with three connectivity options:
- One internal SATA II port
- One RJ45 Ethernet port (Gigabit)
- Two USB 2.0 host ports
The Gigabit connectivity is often preferred in terms of transfer rate. The internal SATA is for hard drive connectivity into the NAS. The USB ports would be for some of you that may need further data storage expansion or for sharing USB printer. Any external hard drive with USB 2.0 connectivity would fit off the rack.
Not just speed, this device was also packed to protect network connected PCs with incremental and full-system automatic backup. You’d also have lesser things to worry about files with its powerful hardware-based encryption. This device also functions as an FTP server, enabling remote file access around the globe. And if you love media streaming, you will surely love to know this device came with media streaming capability to DLNA compliant devices and computers running iTunes software. As with other NAS, BlackArmor was designed to provide centralized storage and data backup for up to 10 PCs.
Installation was also was also a breeze. For around 10mins I’ve finished it using Windows XP. What I require by that time is a responsive device that can cater storage needs. This device offers that requirement with a very reliable speed. Read and write capabilities are remarkable. Incredibly, given with its speed, this device operates quietly and small enough to be carried around. Upon opening the box, you’ll find the following items:
- BlackArmor NAS 110 storage server
- 2M – RJ45 cable
- AC power cord
- Quick Start Guide
- CD softwares:
- BlackArmor Discovery Software for Windows
- BlackArmor Discovery Software for Mac OS
- BlackArmor Backup Software for Windows
The interface is good enough that with a single click, I have viewed shared volumes on my computer. Other folks are concerned about the heat generated by the device. This is a common thing with electronic devices. The device casing was designed to dissipate heat effectively even with its compact design. Although warm on the outer surface it’s
still not as hot on the inside which is very elegant.
Another thing I like about this device is the three year warranty offered by Seagate. Though you may not always use this freebie, the thought that its manufacturer will back it for a couple of years will mean that the device will certainly keep during the hard times.
For a well rounded storage device, this one has every competency to offer. Those who want to see their memorable files in years to come; this is the device that you might be looking for. With a huge amount of storage, this is a very valuable asset for home and small offices.
